Council Approves Green Street Use Agreement with Downtown Lee's Summit Main Street
The Lee's Summit City Council unanimously approved a bill advancing to second reading that would establish an agreement between the city and Downtown Lee's Summit Main Street for the operation of Green Street.
The bill, number 25-187, was approved during the September 23 council meeting and will allow Downtown Lee's Summit Main Street to continue running the farmers market at the new downtown venue.
Council Member Hilary Shields noted that the Downtown Main Street board had discussed the agreement at their meeting earlier that evening, expressing their support and eagerness for council approval.
Council members briefly discussed the popularity of the farmers market at Green Street, with Shields mentioning that while fall has brought a slight seasonal slowdown, the venue still attracts "three times the normal visitors" compared to previous years at this time.
The bill will require a second reading for final adoption at a future council meeting.
In related business, the council also unanimously approved Bill Number 25-186, which creates Article 6 in Chapter 26 of the City Code to delegate authority to city staff for the management, operation, security, maintenance, and upkeep of Green Street.
