Lee's Summit opens application period for federal community development grants

The City of Lee's Summit will begin accepting applications for Community Development Block Grant funding on Jan. 6, 2026, officials announced Friday.

Qualified agencies have until Feb. 6, 2026, to apply for the 2026-27 CDBG funding cycle. The federal grants are awarded annually to the city through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

According to the city's press release, the grant funds must be used to serve low- to moderate-income individuals and families, address slum or blight conditions in Lee's Summit, or meet urgent community needs.

The application period runs for one month, giving eligible organizations time to prepare their funding requests for programs that benefit the community's most vulnerable residents.

Details about application requirements, eligibility criteria, and submission procedures were not included in the initial announcement. Interested agencies should contact the City of Lee's Summit's Development Services department for additional information about the application process.

Community Development Block Grants are a key federal program that helps cities address housing, community development, and economic development needs, particularly in areas serving lower-income populations.
