Lee's Summit Public Works Committee Approves Major Infrastructure Projects

The Lee's Summit Public Works Committee approved several significant infrastructure projects during its Monday meeting, including a $5.4 million street improvement project and a $677,100 water tank recoating contract.

The committee unanimously approved awarding the Olive and Orchard Street and Storm Sewer Improvements project to VF Anderson Builders for $5,430,314. The project will address infrastructure from Douglas Street to Chipman Road, according to the meeting agenda.

Committee members also approved a contract with Cunningham Sandblasting & Painting Co. for $677,100 to recoat the Bowlin Tank as part of the city's water system maintenance efforts.

In other business, the committee authorized a significant change order for an ongoing water main replacement project. The modification increases Leath & Sons Inc.'s contract by $730,569.17, bringing the total project cost to $5,222,412.17. The change also extends the project timeline by 56 calendar days.

The committee approved extending a five-year agreement with ITpipes Opco, LLC for sewer inspection video software and maintenance services. Additionally, three engineering firms - HDR Engineering Inc., Burns and McDonnell Inc., and George Butler Associates Inc. - were selected to provide on-call engineering services for water and wastewater projects.

The Public Works Committee, chaired by Councilmember Fred DeMoro, reviews matters related to the city's infrastructure, including streets, water systems, and the municipal airport. The committee meets monthly at City Hall on Southeast Green Street.

All approved items will advance to the full City Council for final consideration.
