Lee's Summit Shares Snow Removal Tips to Help Residents Prepare for Winter
The City of Lee's Summit has released guidance to help residents prepare for winter weather and work more effectively with city snow removal operations.
The city's recommendations focus on three main areas to reduce delays and improve snow clearing efficiency throughout Lee's Summit neighborhoods.
First, officials ask residents to clear streets of obstacles before snowfall. According to the city, items left on streets can slow plows, create uneven plowing or prevent crews from accessing certain areas entirely. Residents should move cars off streets and remove basketball goals and other objects.
Second, the city advises residents on proper snow shoveling techniques. Rather than pushing snow from driveways into the street, residents should shovel snow to the side of their driveways. Officials also recommend clearing the curb area to the left of driveways to prevent snow from being pushed back into the driveway opening by passing plows.
The city also encourages residents to stay informed about snow operations through LSSnow.net, which features an interactive snow plow map, operational updates and frequently asked questions about winter weather response.
Lee's Summit, located 16 miles southeast of downtown Kansas City, serves more than 107,000 residents. The city's Public Works department holds national accreditation for its services.
The winter preparation guidance comes as part of the city's broader snow operations communication efforts. More information about Lee's Summit's snow removal procedures is available on the city's website and social media channels.
